Frequently Asked Questions
An Employer of Record (EOR) is a company (our company) that takes on the legal responsibilities of employing someone on behalf of another business. This means we will handle payroll, taxes, benefits, and compliance with Indonesia laws, while the worker still reports to and works for its original company. It is the perfect solution for businesses wanting to hire or have projects in Indonesia without setting up a local entity.
In Indonesia, income tax on salaries is progressive—meaning the more you earn, the higher the tax rate you pay. Both locals and foreigners working in Indonesia are subject to these taxes. The system is fairly straightforward, and employers typically handle the deductions. Below is a simplified look at the tax brackets for individuals:
| Annual Income (IDR) | Tax Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to 60 million | 5% |
| 60 – 250 million | 15% |
| 250 – 500 million | 25% |
| 500 million – 5 billion | 30% |
| Over 5 billion | 35% |
Everyone also gets a non-taxable income allowance, easing the burden a bit.
In Indonesia, employers have monthly and annual payroll obligations. Monthly, they must withhold income tax (PPh 21) and contribute to social security (BPJS) —4% for health (plus 1% from the employee) and around 5.7% for employment security (plus 2% from the employee). Salaries must be paid monthly with clear payslips. Annually, employers must provide a Religious Holiday Allowance (THR), equal to one month’s salary if the employee has worked for 12 months (or prorated). They must also complete annual income tax reporting. These obligations ensure legal compliance and support employees’ health, security, and holiday needs, building trust and a positive work environment.
